Gareth Pugh SS09 + Dupli Casa (by J.Mayer)

Fluid like time and light,

like freshly – poured milk.

Gareth Pugh, the Parisian debut – ant,

collides with the expected &

introduces raw futurism to Now.

Terminator flirts with Optimus Prime*,

and the Parisian scene is ever transformed.

On the other hand, Dupli Casa (2006/7)

seems to have just came out of a mould,

fragile to touch and

sensitive as it recalls,

its previous state.

Its geometry is based on the footprint

of the house that was previously

located on the site

since 1984.

Linked with a futurama archaeology,

with the topography of Ludwigsburg

– the area that hosts the building –

 proposes a new term

for the memory of the structure.

Dupli Casa

– by Jurgen Mayer Architects –

while transforming the past,

still determines the future.

Golden Χωλ

Sometimes things dont make any sense at all.

But then again, you have to go beyond.

And meet Sandra @ the Golden Χωλ.

Where time stops and people shop,

kids roller-blading around.

The same people

and the same kids,

like someone ran out of stunts.

Everything keeps spinning

your leopard shoes

and glossy reflections

make you blink.

Architecture reaches bottom

American x-press reaches peak.

Pick a card.

VIP Mirror by Habitat*

Having drunk way tooo much champagne

at the opening of Golden Hall,

wearing my golden-leaved shoes,

im questioning luxury.

The ability to say no,

the people u know,

the friends you have,

the shoes you own.

Summing up to the fact,

that luxury is

the capability to say yes,

to have your morning coffee at “Vivliothiki”

with grannies, at the next table,

eating shrimps & salad.

The smell of Soupline all over your home.

Luxury is when u ask your mirror

who is the most beautiful of all.

– And he never replies –

Antonio Berardi (SS09) + SANAA (for Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavillion)

SANAA’s installation in the Barcelona Pavillion*

is so discrete that someone might not notice it

at first glance.

Acrylic curtains will be forming a spline

in the center of the construction,

providing reflections and transparencies,

ephemerally changing views

of the interior space,

through and on

the added material.

“We decided to make transparent curtains using acrylic material,

since we didn’t want the installation to interfere with

the existing space of the Barcelona Pavilion

says Kazuyo Sejima.

SANAA consists of Azuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa

and maintain their firm since 1995.

Amongst their projects are

Dior Tokyo

O Museum

Kanazawa Museum.

While Antonio Berardi’s collection for SS09

– instead of marble and travertine –

comprised of lace and embroideries

proposes a sleek feminity

through dynamic – yet subtle – transparencies.

Sharing the same philosophy with SANAA,

the Italian cosmopolitan

who lives in London & shows in Paris,

creates an atmosphere that respects the body.

Either revealing or covering

the inner lingerie,

addresses the contemporary woman.

White, black and sheer are starkly

juxtaposed with cardinal red

the constructing materials

of a minimal, yet architectural piece of work.

* The BP was designed by Mies van der Rohe for the 1939 International Exposition in Barcelona, and hosted the German Pavillion.

It was dismantled right after the exposition, and a replica stands on the same site from 1986.

Polish Expo Pavillion 2010 (Wojciech Kakowski, Natalia Paszkowska, Marcin Mostafa) &

Lace Dresses FW2008 (Prada)

The project team of the Expo 2010 Polish Pavillion

aimed to construct a memorable cultural ideogram,

through a theme,

a motif of folk-art paper cut-out.

Or, more precisely, through a rendering of the motif,

a transcription of an elementary esthetic code

into the contemporary language of

architectural décor.

Miuccia Prada, on the other hand

experimented on couture lace

having all Switzerland

crafting metres of textiles.

‘When you are working on something simple, the surface is important.’

stated Miuccia.

While she laced her – creatives – fingers*

into those of the creators of the PP.

* Lace (verb) he laced his fingers into mine. entwine, intertwine, twine, entangle,interweave, link, braid, plait.

Mary Katrantzou (Μαίρη Κατράντζου) + Kazimir Malevich (Казимир Северинович Малевич)adjective

The latter (1878 – 1935) was the pioneer of geometric abstract art

& the originator of the Avant – garde Suprematist movement.

The first (1980 – ) is a Greek born designer,

recently graduated from St. Martins Fashion college

and is being launched as ‘a name to remember’.

I always feel a bit itchy when facing

new – born talents in the fashion industry but when it comes

to an undefiable, unresistable clarity

of a new identity,

a new fashion specie

all i can do is raise my hands up.

Between constructivism and de-constructivism

Russian Avant-garde and Suprematism,

with marvellous colourful pallettes,

flirting with the Biba era and Furstenberg prints

 ‘Mary Katrantzou’

is not a name to remember,

but one, rather constructive*

to learn by heart.

The surface of the skin.

In Architecture & Fashion on November 18, 2008 at 23:29

If one has loved the surface of things for a long time, one will finally look for sth more. This ‘more’, however, is already present in the surface one wants to go beyond.

– Citation from M. Seuphor in Mondrian’s notebooks –

1, Sionna cape dress (by Milene Birger)

2, ‘Flare’ is a modular system to create a dynamic hull for facades or any building or wall surface.

It acts like a living skin, allowing a building to express, communicate and interact with its environment.

3, Petal trimmed dress (by Fendi)

Mathias Klotz (Casa 11 Mujeres) + Lanvin Resort (SS09)

Casa 11 Mujeres

(Eleven Women House)

.. was named like that because it was designed

for a family with 11 daughters

ages four to twenty.

Divided in three floors,

is built with bare concrete

wood floors, glass, and steel,

on a 45 degree slope

looking down Cachagua beach

(87 miles north of Santiago de Chile).

The bottom floor contains shared spaces,

the top floor has the master bedroom +

kitchen, living room, dining room,

while the second level has the daughters bedrooms

—all overlooking the sea—

What if the 11 daughters

dressed up

in Lanvin Resort 2009;

Then everything would resort*

to ‘perfection’.
